Inspired design, with a purpose

  • Amrize partnered with Urban Villages, a leading real estate developer and The Beck Group, the largest integrated design-build firm in the US, to build the Populus Hotel in downtown Denver.

  • Designed by Studio Gang — named among Architectural Digest’s AD100 since 2017 — and led by MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, the hotel’s eye-catching design is inspired by Colorado’s native Aspen tree, Populus Tremuloides, adding beauty and wonder to Denver’s skyline.

  • The Populus Hotel is LEED Gold certified as an advanced building.

Big goals require high performance

  • Our solutions delivered exceptional performance, enabling the building’s advanced and distinctive visual profile. Just one example of how we’re constantly looking ahead to develop what’s next with our customers.
  • We used innovative new technology such as sensors that measure the strength of concrete and that analyze how concrete develops heat in mass, giving us the ability to craft data-driven solutions.
  • Strict environmental specifications demanded intense testing and verification of Amrize’s product performance. Amrize’s advanced concrete, which offers a minimum of 30% lower CO₂ emissions compared to standard concrete, contributed to the project’s LEED Gold certification.
  • Our advanced concrete mixes enable the project’s superstructure beams, slabs and other components.
  • Advanced building materials that dry faster and are more durable and stronger were also key.
  • Populus’ green roof contributed to the building’s energy efficiency, while advancing urban ecology with a combination of native plants.

“The Populus Hotel is going to be a Denver landmark for years to come, not only in its visual representation but also in its structural design. We’re able to prove a viable path forward for working smarter, with no compromise in the workability, schedule or performance of the project.”
