LOW ON CARBON, BIG ON COMMUNITY: DANIELS ON PARLIAMENT DELIVERS BOTH
Rising high above Parliament and Gerrard, Daniels on Parliament reflects a vision to reduce the embodied carbon of its structure while delivering innovative concrete solutions.
At the meeting point of Regent Park and Cabbagetown, Daniels on Parliament rises as a defining addition to Toronto’s Downtown East. Developed by The Daniels Corporation, the project reflects a commitment to bold design, forward-thinking construction and long-term community building. It features a 25-story South Tower and a 10-story North Tower connected through shared amenity spaces.
Blending refined finishes with thoughtfully designed outdoor shared spaces, the building offers residents a place to reconnect with nature while enjoying elevated living.
Delivering this vision required advanced concrete solutions that could perform in real-world conditions — including Toronto winters — while realizing Daniels’ broader objectives for the build.
OUR AMBITION: RAISING THE STANDARD FOR MODERN RESIDENTIAL BUILDS
Daniels partnered with Amrize, through its subsidiary Innocon, to optimize concrete mix designs for the project — balancing performance and schedule certainty across the two buildings.
The shared priorities were clear:
- Deliver advanced admixture solutions to meet precise performance targets
- Generate verified data to inform future residential projects
- Keep construction moving through seasonal changes
- Maintain momentum on a tight urban site
Today’s buyers and renters are increasingly prioritizing efficient design and long-term value alongside location and affordability.
“Our goal at Daniels on Parliament was twofold: to significantly cut the project’s carbon footprint by using ECOtect low-carbon concrete at scale, and to gather practical knowledge we can apply across future projects.”
“Our goal at Daniels on Parliament was twofold: to significantly cut the project’s carbon footprint by using ECOtect low-carbon concrete at scale, and to gather practical knowledge we can apply across future projects,” said Meghan Wilson, senior manager of sustainability at Daniels.
THE SOLUTION: HIGH-PERFORMANCE CONCRETE, BACKED BY DATA
Amrize delivered a tailored concrete package designed for reliable, year-round performance:
- 38 custom mix designs of ECOtect low-carbon concrete
- TEMPtect all-season concrete engineered to maintain predictable set times and workability in cold conditions
- 86 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) covering concrete, rebar, and additional materials across the project
- ConcreteDirect digital logistics, providing real‑time truck tracking, live batch data and coordinated delivery to keep pours on schedule
THE RESULTS: A COMMUNITY DELIVERED ON SCHEDULE
More than 22,000 m³ (28,800 yd³) of concrete were successfully placed across the two towers. ECOtect formed the structural backbone of the development, while TEMPtect supported steady progress as temperatures dropped during the winter months of construction.
“Daniels on Parliament demonstrates that large-scale innovation and carbon reductions are achievable without compromising performance,” said David Kelly, Innocon president. “It also shows the value of collaboration between supplier, contractor and developer from the outset.”
Wilson added, “The experience was invaluable. It gave us real-world insight into how low-carbon concrete performs on a fast-paced construction site in a climate as variable as Toronto’s. That hands-on learning is what allows us to push the industry forward.”
